ARTIST STATEMENT

….I Inherit from my native England a deep awareness of landscape, changeable weather and stimulation of strange lands. A nomad and immigrant by force of circumstances, I have always sought balance in nature. A citizen of the United States of America, I’m deeply appreciative of finally being settled in a magnificent place. I find serenity, excitement and joy as I absorb the beauty of quiet domestic landscapes and wild open spaces, There is drama in changing light and color, and wonderment in the wilderness. I have to express that moment in paint to share what I see and feel.

….I am guided by a very diverse selection of painters – J.M.W.Turner, John Singer Sargent, the late Winslow Homer and Wu Guanzhong in watercolor and by Fifteenth Century Florentine painters and Milton Avery, Camille Corot and David Hockney, Maynard Dixon and Richard Deibenkorn. They saw a landscape, abstracted that moment and painted it directly with their own emotion.
